  • Mar 14, 2011 - 'Quality of Service: Best Practices You Can Implement Today'
  • Mar 14, 2011 - 'Network Security'

At 10:30 on Monday March 14, Terry Slattery will be part of a breakout session on "Quality of Service: Best Practices You Can Implement Today" that will look at quality of service (QoS) for satellite networks. In an all-IP world, the peaceful coexistence of voice, data, and video traffic on a network is reliant upon QoS algorithms which prioritize and regulate the different types of data packets. In addition to configuring routers and switches, satellite engineers must also configure satellite modems and routers which have their own set of rules. Some of the questions this session will cover:

  • What are the best practices for QoS over satellite?
  • How has the never-ending demand for more bandwidth affected QoS?

At 4:15pm on Monday March 14, Terry Slattery will be part of an expert panel discussion on "Network Security" that will allow attendees a chance to exchange ideas with network security experts. The panel will discuss how satellite network security has evolved from often nothing more than an afterthought. For example, for many years satellite networks enjoyed 'security through obscurity', but that has changed with Internet connectivity. The panel will review the real threat to networks, major faux pas found in many satellite networks, and ways to improve network security. They will provide recommendations on what tests to run ensure your network is secure, and help attendees gain a better understanding of the biggest threats against their network.
