Introduction to MPLS
Written by Paul Borghese

Paul Borghese, CCIE, Senior Consultant at Chesapeake Netcraftsmen, provided an Introduction to Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) for the Enterprise at the February 18, 2010 C-MUG session. He reviewed:

  • Why to use MPLS in the Enterprise
  • Basic MPLS theory and Troubleshooting
  • MPLS for BGP, VPNs, and Traffic Engineering
and also demonstrated sample router configurations for MPLS using Dynamips to create a virtual MPLS pod of equipment.

For a PDF of the presentation, please download icon Introduction to Multiprotocal Label Switching (MPLS).

For a short video on setting up Dynamips to create your own MPLS lab, go Paul's video, Setting Up Dynamips, which discusses how you would set up Dynamips. If you download this VirtualPod.Zip file, you will find the tools you can use to set up the virtual MPLS pod that Paul describes in the video. The ZIP file includes the Dynamips, Dynagen, WinPCap, and 7z applications.
